[Merkaartor] Crash with new Windows build from SVN

Hello everybody,

after a long time doing other things, I have now started with a clean
Merkaartor directory to test and update the Windows build How To.

So far everything went fine, I could adapt to the new directory
structure and build the binary. But it doesn't quite work. Right after
the start, when the splash screen is still visible, it crashes with no
specific error message. I have found the file merkaartor.log in the
output directory thereafter, which contains:

MerkaartorPreferences::fromOsmPref : "GET /api/0.5/user/preferences/"
MerkaartorPreferences::toOsmPref
MerkaartorPreferences::toOsmPref

couldn't create image from  ""

What does that mean? How can I resolve the error? When I try to start it
a second time, it adds the following lines:

couldn't create image from  ""
