[Merkaartor] Real-Time Editing

Hey, I see that Merkaartor has the ability to connect to a GPS device.

Does this mean I can create maps in real-time? I'd like to be able to categorise roads on the fly and enter road names as the data is coming in. Would this be possible? I don't need to connect to the server in real-time... just to manage the data on the client coming in from the GPS.
