[Merkaartor] 0.17.2 build error with boost 1.49, status of 0.18?

Hi,

As the maintainer for Merkaartor in the FreeBSD ports system, I was made aware
today that Merkaartor 0.17.2 does not build (out of the box) with the new
version of boost they intend to introduce shortly.

I know that 0.18 is free from boost, so rather than trying to patch 0.17.2, I
would like to update the FreeBSD port to 0.18, if necessary with a selfmade
tarball from 0.18-dev.

Building 0.18-dev I came across a showstopper of a problem, which is that
Merkaartor crashes as soon as I activate a background plugin. I hope someone
here can spot the problem more easily than I can:

What is the status of 0.18? I've seen the roadmap at
<http://merkaartor.be/projects/merkaartor/roadmap>, but given the boost-thing,
perhaps we should save most of those for 0.18.1 and just get a boost-free
version of Merkaartor released.
