That's true. It's not a problem of mac by itself, it's the way the code
is written. I think the Qt should handle most of the differences, and
that's why we have it. Take a look at git grep Q_OS_MAC. I hope to
eliminate most of them, and keep just a small bit in initialization due
to path differences.

I tried installing some newer image into kvm virtual machine, but failed
horribly. I'd buy Mac for virtual machines, but it seems there are some
hacks needed even for a regular PC and I can't justify buying mac just
for a few builds.

Merkaartor will need tuning, at least I think it will. High density
displays are supported since Qt5+.

Does it work at all? I think there are two possibilities: everything is
smaller than you would expect, or everything is nice and big, but
blocky, since the images are resizes (I'm not sure about the map).

I may be able to borrow a mac with retina to try, but I currently have
time to work on it, so it will have to wait. If you'd like to have a
dig, please, do!
