[OSM-newbies] Navilink - was general help

I've just noticed I didn't copy the gpsbabel.exe from the CD to the same directory as where I had installed Navilink software. Now I have copied it I can get the 7 files including the gpx ones

First thing is to ensure that in the Navilink software you have the Format set as "oziexplorer/gpx/csv".
Next question - where are you running the Navilink software from (CD or hard disk).
I have always previously run the software straight from the CD ,and when I download tracks etc from the GT11 I get 7 files, including 2 in gpx format and 2 in KML format.
Yesterday I copied the Navilink software to my hard disc, but when I tried to download from the GT11 I only got 3 files, and none were gpx format.

i have a bgt-11 and a PC laptop (which i dont know my way around very well as im a mac users)
The problem im \having is that i dont seem to having much luck with converting the output of the BGT to anything meaningful. i seem to get a DAT file or three files called TK/nmea/WP.
Ive followed instruction for the software listed on the openstreet map site but i can seems to doesnt seem to recognise my files...
