Use the select tool in JOSM (second one from the top), or press the "S" key.

You'll be now in "select an object" mode.

Just click on the way you want to modify - but be sure to click at least 10 
pixels away from a node! JOSM will select a node instead of a way if you 
click too close to it. Zoom in if neccesary.


Once you got the way selected, just use the properties pane to add more tags, 
as you already did.


(By the way: the "created by" tag is for use of JOSM, you should't be filling 
up that manually! the OSM API already attributes your work by other ways 
different than tags.)
