[OSM-newbies] Getting waterways to render

Hi,

The city I live in (Sydney) has geographically important areas of
bays/rivers where
that map 'looks wrong' without the bodies of water.

I thought I understood how to get them to render in osmarender - but I was
wrong, I ended
up confusing the renderer and turning the whole tile blue ;-( So  can
someone tell me how
to get these to render.
