[OSM-newbies] missing city

Google Maps tells me that that is at latitude -12.8 and longitude -40.8, 
is that correct? Loading that area with JOSM shows no data at all.

Have you tried closing Potlatch and re-loading that area with Potlatch 
again?
It seems your node is not where you say it should be - or not there at 
all. Are you really looking at the same area in the two applications?

I have only little experience with Potlatch. But I do trust JOSM when it 
says there is no data.
