It depends what you are looking to do.

A) Use your GPS device with your Fedora machine to track what you are doing.
B) Use your GPS device independent of your laptop to collect the log data
(this will be easiest for the casual logger), and then retrieve that data
from the device, and work with the GPX files.

I would recommend option B.

What bluetooth device is it? As that will have a big impact on;
A) Can you do either of the above.
B) How :)
