[OSM-newbies] Speed Limits

Howdy Alberto,

For some reason, I never did see this post from you in my e-mail.
I found it only because I went looking to review the thread in the
archive.

Thank you for answering my question.
I had not seen the webpage you mentioned, until after I made the changes
outlined below.

Unfortunately, the page looks rather cryptic to me, and I see no
examples.

What I've done so far, is to duplicate the 50/55 road, reversing the
direction of the new copy.
I renamed the roads, putting N & S in front of the names. (I'm betting
that this will not be good when trying to find addresses on the street.)
I then tagged each copy with the appropriate maxspeed.
I then also tagged each copy with oneway set to true.

A nuisance road that does not exist insists on being part of any route I
try to download.
To fix that, split the phantom road at the last node before the real
road, and then deleted the part between that node and the real road.

Once I did all that, I uploaded my changes, and have been trying ever
since to figure out how to get maemo-mapper to retrieve routes from osm
instead of from gnuite.com, and have had no success.

The deleted segment I expected to be visible when retrieving the street
map from osm with maemo-mapper, but remains unchanged.
I think though, that this is because I have not waited long enough.
Edits only hit the real data on Thursdays?

So, I have not yet been able to find out if the changes I made are
correct and functional.

There's a proposal for using segmented tags to handle this kind of
situation:

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Relations/Proposed/Segmented_Tag

If I understand it right, this approach would require to write two
relations, one for the forward direction, and one for the reversed direction
(you could make the segment start and end at the outer nodes of the way, if
the speed limit applies to the whole length of the way).
