[OSM-newbies] coastline, nyc

I've seen some chatter about using scripts to upload coastline data.  Is
this still the preferred method, or is it okay to trace sat imagery?  I'd
like to fix the coast around my home:

as it's a little annoying being under water in osmarender.

Any tips?
