Harald,

You are right that during the mapping part it's all a bit solo unless you
are doing something as a pair (say in a car or on foot). The real social
part, and the real reason mapping parties are so much fun, is the social
side in the evening and over coffee/breakfast before you go mapping. These
periods make it really feel that you are part of something bigger, even when
you are on your own the next morning wandering or biking down a lonely
street in the rain.
