Hi Emmanuel,
check out the API description in the wiki. It allows you to send a request as a bounding  box to the server. it will answer with the requested data for the area the an xml response.

Alternatively you could use JOSM, center in on the respective city and request the data. You can save the result in the OSM XML format.

Hi,

My name is emmanuel Lopez, im a phd student at cinvestav guadalajara 
campus (www.gdl.cinvestav.mx), im implementing a microsimualtor usign 
event oriented approach and multiagent paradigm, and i want to use the 
information provied by openstreetmap, i really only need the length of 
the street, the width, x1,y1, etc. to execute my simulation, where i can 
download a little sample of some city , as i read, you provide xml format,
I hope you can help me.,
