The problem is the even these residential spaces are not primarily car
parks, at least in most cases. So I would feel the above tags alone are
misleading. Maybe a "service area" isn't quite right either, but then I
already tag some residential access roads as "service" for want of
anything better. My basic criterion is whether there are front doors
accessed from the road: then it is normally "residential". If it just
just access to garages, back gardens, small play areas and the like,
then I tend to use "service" when nothing else is more obviously
appropriate.

Not usually. Surely others have met this problem before?
