the Geckos are quite popular and AFAIK will work well on LInux boxes. I use a
GPSmap 60 Cx so I cannot really comment on the GPS 60.
Both devices use slightly dated PhaseTrac12 chips. I'd either try to get a
device with a SIRF III chipset or at least one of those new eTrex Hcx series
devices whose chip also seems to be great. IMO the latter ones provide great
value for the money.
