[OSM-newbies] upload data from non-gps source

Hello,

I have a small-to-moderate ammount of public domain data which was
converted from another format to osm xml format.
Actually, convertion is not yet complete, but I wanted to ask for help
with uploading the data.

Inside the new osm file, the node/way identifiers were, of course,
selected without cosideration of the openstreetmap database in the
server. Good change that they conflict.

Another point worth mentioning, is that currently the entire osm file
can be loaded - java eats 740mb of memory...

So what is the easiest way to upload the data?
