[OSM-newbies] Parallel river bank

If you look here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:waterway%3Driverbank
it suggests the riverbank tag applies to areas. The arbitrary base
line you mention just seems to be an assumed link from the start of
the linear way to the end to turn it into a closed area.
