[OSM-newbies] Coverting OSM to other formats

When I did it I loaded an OSM extract into Postgis, tidied it up in SQL, 
and then used ogr2ogr to extract to shapefiles.

Unfortunately the tools I used for the Postgis load don't work with the 
0.5 format and the instructions for using the new tools don't work for me.
