[OSM-newbies] Is there a Landuse= Mixed option?

Thanks for the answer.
Your second point leads me onto a query that baffles me.

As a newbie, when I correctly map an element I want to see it rendered, 
not only as part of job satisfaction, but also to see if I'm doing 
correctly.
How am I meant to do that if it doesn't appear? 

Am I correct in thinking Mapnik is the 'basic' (or first) render for 
OSM? If so, should a new feature only be adopted when it's able to be 
rendered in Mapnik? Such as also crossing=zebra & bridge=viaduct? Any 
others I should be aware of?

It will, I believe, lead to fudging it so that it does appear, or worse, 
not not being added at all.
