i also have the Garmin GPSmap76CSx.

my Ubuntu 8.04/8.10 laptops mount gps micro-SD read-write, and mounts
it via USB as mass storage RW too.

you may have an older Ubuntu with the Readonly default on NTFS+FAT
filesystems? or some other 'careful' setting yhat i am not
recognizing. or a rw switch on your adapter?

(i just wish i could select user map files with gps as i can with poi
files. havinging to mount the card to swap maps when crossing corners
of states is annoying.)
