[OSM-newbies] Canal Wharf?

I haven't checked, but can't you just use the existing width tag?
Not an area, but it seems to do a reasonable job on rivers with the 
current renders. Just split the ways, and adjust the width as needed.
Not at all the same thing as polyline, of course, but perhaps good 
enough. Maybe not.
