'Search to Map' will let you overlay markings on all ways or poi that match
a search criteria. (This isn't full thematic mapping, for which you might
need GRASS or one of the other FLOSS GIS packages, but it may meet your
need.)  I use this to make field-check paper maps of the one-ways imported
without direction (a peculiarity of our state GIS import, tiger doesn't even
have OneWay since Census workers walk their blocks.)
