Another nice feature is that you can "Merge down" one layer onto
another. When mapping areas, for example from imagery, I often do that
on a New layer where I can quickly outline the shape of the area
without interfering with what's already on the map. It's then easy to
"Merge down" to place the newly created area on the downloaded layer.
