   The editor does not assist with that - the case I was referring to is 
where some of the houses are not physically equally spaced - those nodes can 
be numbered.

   There is no editor tool to generate equally spaced numbered nodes that I 
know of.   However, that would be a simple addition to the JOSM Address 
Interpolation plugin; I may try to add that in the next week or 2.

   The primary user of address interpolation ways is computer geo-location 
from a numbered address - for either map marker placement or navigation. 
So all that is required are the 2 end nodes and the way with only enough 
un-tagged nodes to define the path of the houses.    The usual rendering is 
just a dotted line on the map between the 2 numbered end nodes.
