[OSM-newbies] Questions about adding cycling paths in Moscow

Alex,

So, if I use "bicycle=designated" on an existing way, it should appear in
OpenCycleMaps, and does not mean that it is exclusive to bicycles?

I suppose the phrase "dedicated shared use" is a bit unclear. What I meant
was that part of the paths are either sidewalks painted with bicycle symbols
(but still allow pedestrians) or actual roads that are closed to cars (so
that people can walk, bike, and roller-blade there).

In order to use ncn/rcn/lcn, I think that I have to create a separate
physical way, don't I? Or can I do that as a relation?

... this is all really much more complicated that I had expected. You
almost have to become an expert in OSM technical jargon just to add in your
favorite cycling route. :(

Brian

I would suggest using bicycle=designated for this. Probably
cycleway=track is OK as well. I would avoid highway=cycleway, as it is
a shared-use path.

Can you explain what "dedicated shared use" is, as opposed to
non-dedicated shared use? If you just mean that it is designated for
several modes of transport then you'd want something like
highway=path+foot=designated+bicycle=designated+roller_blade=designated
(note that the last is not an official tag...).

One way to ensure that they'll appear on OCM is to use ncn/rcn/lcn as
appropriate.
