I'm probably doing it the hard way, but I do very few of these so it's
not worth the time trying to find a proper method. It works for me.
The GPS I use always puts North at the top. I rotate the GPS so that
the track it's recording points back along the road or path that I'm
on. The GPS itself is now pointing North. I now place a notepad next
to the GPS pointing in the same direction and draw a line parallel the
to bearing I want to measure.
Back at home I hold the notepad vertically next to the screen and try
to make sure that the line I draw is parallel to the line in the
notepad.
