One point of your example emphasises mine, I believe.
lock_name = 5

I think that should be
lock_ref=5

Many locks that have a reference also have a descriptive name, usually 
of their surroundings:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_locks_on_the_Kennet_and_Avon_Canal
