[OSM-newbies] Help

Hi,
I downloaded XML data for specific area and I am trying to understand the classification for each feature (e.g highway, building, footway,   etc), but I have no idea about how can I interpretate the xml data for example

     I know its highway/ tertiary but how can I represent it? where is the GPS data?????????? and what (nd ref) means???
