[OSM-newbies] Any purpose for both an closed way, and a separate node in the centre?

Several times now I have come across parts of the map which have for
example a park drawn out as a closed way covering the area of the
park, and then a single separate node in the middle tagged again as a
park, but with the park name. Should this be left as is? It would make
more sense to remove the single node, and just name the way. What
should I do in situations like this?

Also sometimes I see a single node tagged as parking. Should I refrain
from removing the single node and replacing it with the whole parking
area traced out as a way, also tagged as parking? I would have thought
that in the long run, the closed way is better than the single node,
which is just a compromise until someone has more time to trace out
the whole area.
