[OSM-newbies] Unable to update PostgreSQL database with changesets

I have successfully imported planet data in a PostgreSQL database with 
this command
$ ./osm2pgsql -S default.style -s -d gis -C 4096 ~/planet-100512.osm.bz2

Now I'm trying to update the database with the changesets released since 
my planet version,
but nothing seems to be imported, as the total number of rows in the 
database are unchanged

The output of the job is here:

$ ./osm2pgsql -v -S default.style --append -s -d gis -C 4096 
~/changesets-100526.osm.bz2 -e6 -o ../expired_tiles/expire.list
