We're just being loose about the word "split". I assume Pieren meant
it to mean the two ways are still connected at one node, but Dave F
interpreted it as the two ways being entirely separate.

(When I talked about splitting the way where a fence crosses it, I did
mean the two ways being entirely separate. If there's no way to cross
the fence, there's no need to route across it.)

Dunno, I hear* that in parts of the US, property owners have to post
"no trespassing signs" on unimproved land if they don't want the
public on it. (Improved land, including driveways, is considered
automatically posted.) Off-topic anyway.
