Hi Ricardo
Thanks for contacting the OSM project!
May I first ask how the data was collected for your project? You have
mentioned the Google Maps API. If the data for the project was collected
by deriving information from Google Maps, Google Satellite Photos or any
other copyrighted source, unfortunately it will not be compatible with
the OpenStreetMap licence. At OSM, we are particularly fussy about not
deriving data from copyrighted sources, unless the copyright owner has
given specific permission for the OSM project to derive from their data
(as Yahoo! have for their aerial photos). In which case, may I suggest
you contact Wikimapia (http://wikimapia.org), as my understanding is
that they do derive data from Google Satellite imagery.
However, if your data is derived either using GPS devices, derived from
public domain sources, or derived from copyrighted sources with explicit
permission (you may need to ask permission again to incorporate it into
a new project, potentially under a different licence), then I expect
your data could be extremely valuable to the OSM project. If you can
confirm whether this is the case, I am sure others on the list can give
you further technical advice on how to translate your data and then add
it to OSM (unfortunately, I lack the technical knowledge).
In either case, we always welcome new contributors, so even if your
current data set is not licence compatible, we would love to have future
contributions from you collected by a GPS device or derived from aerial
photos with permission. You can find out more about how to do so here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Beginners%27_Guide
And you can find out more about our licence here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Licence
And the restrictions on what we add to our database here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Copyright
And some of the data sources we can use here:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Potential_Datasources
Good luck!
Best wishes
David (davspod)
