Not sure if this is equivalent to what Andre said, but you can press -
(minus) to remove a node from just one way.
Also...is this really a worthwhile task? What's wrong with landuse
tags sharing nodes with roads? That's how I've been creating them, it
seems a lot tidier than having a whole separate polygon just inside
the road network. Is there really any strong consensus against doing
that?
