Most GPS devices will always record the tracklog in WGS84 datum, no
matter what the GPS is set to.
So you can set it to your local grid / local datum if you want, the
tracklog will still be WGS84. All this affects is the numbers displayed
on the screen.
I'm pretty sure this is case for all Garmin GPS devices. Though other
brands may be different, so worth checking.
