If you wanted to create your own map rather than use Cloudmade's
pre-built ones (perhaps you want to see different features) it's not too
difficult. This wiki page:

describes the options. Personally I tend to use "mkgmap" (because I
always have), but if you're new to the process I might be tempted to try
GroundTruth first. Also, there's been some chatter on the OSM-talk list
about creating maps for Haiti and describing the process for people new
to it - some of the messages there might be worth a read.
