[OSM-newbies] Some "What's Going On" Questions

Last night I was working on some streets that I have added from GPS tracks
at Kingscliff NSW when a couple of unexplained things happened:

1. In streets near the one I was dividing and tagging green dots
suddenly appeared. They also appeared in some streets that were outside the
boundaries of my screen. They wouldn't respond to clicking. I am not aware
of anything that I did at the time to cause them. Are they the result of
someone loading bulk information into OSM?

2. When I went to save my changes I received a red message advising of
a "server conflict" and suggested saving again, but each time the message
reappeared so I abandoned the changes and logged out.

3. At one point a message appeared to advise me that someone else had
altered a way but there was no response from the buttons that appeared with
the message. It would be strange for someone else to be changing any of
these ways as they were not even on the map 10 days ago.

Any explanation will be appreciated.
