Discussion of the minutia does indeed belong on the legal list, but
because the statement about being able to copy information off of a
source protected by copyright was mentioned at the start of this
thread, it is important to refute that statement.

This is the newbies list, and teaching a newbie that it is okay to use
information under copyright would be direct violation of the OSM
mandate. That would be a bad start to a lifetime of OSM fun.
