Welcome to OpenStreetMap Kevin.

Sounds like fun. Where are you? Will there be regional differences?
In your help.openstreetmap.org post, you mention connector types,
voltage, current, charger type, live status, etc.
http://help.openstreetmap.org/questions/1147/electric-vehicle-charge-points-reaching-out

What distinguishes these charge points? Is the current combination sufficient?

amenity=fuel
fuel:electricity=yes
http://taginfo.openstreetmap.de/keys/fuel:electricity (90 appearances)

vs.

amenity=charging_station
http://taginfo.openstreetmap.de/tags/amenity=charging_station (6 appearances)

Will name, access and hours be of interest, or are these charging
stations all essentially public and 24 hours? Do consumers care about
the brand or operator? Are there restrictions for type of payment?
name=
access=
opening_hours=

Are charging stations found as part of fuel stations, or as separate amenities?

You mention live status. Do you mean state of construction
(planned/proposed/construction/commissioned)?  If so, each charging
station should probably only be added to OSM once it is under
construction.

Also, please note that there is a mailing list for detailed discussion
of tags. Proposals for new tags or revisions to tags should also be
mentioned on talk@

And again, welcome.
