There are two ways to select all of something. I'm going to show the
harder but more powerful way first.

The first is filtering widget. On the left side of the window there's
an icon that looks like a funnel. If that is selected (highlighted
blue) then on the right you have the widget, probably at the bottom of
your list of widgets.

Make sure it's opened (click the arrow so it points downward).

click the add button.

This brings up a dialog to allow you to give the filter string.

If you wanted just railway's you'd type:
railway
into the textbox

Hit the submit filter button, and now the filter should appear in you
filter widget.

There are some checkboxes on both sides of the text column.

E is for enable, whether the filter is off or on.
H is for hide, whether the things that are filtered are hidden from view
I is for inverse, whether you want the items fitered or everything
else hidden.

So, set your railway filter to E,H,I (that is enabled, hidden,
inverse) and all you'll see are railways.

Now, create a new layer

File -> New Layer

In the Layers widget, click to the left of the little eye icon for the
original layer. The green checkmark icon should move to next to that
layer.

Take your mouse and select all the railways you want to export, and
select Edit -> Merge Selection, and from the dialog choose the new
layer you've just created.

Change back to the new layer. Select File -> Save As... give it a
name and you're done, you've saved the layer.

That's the more difficult way, but it's more powerful in the long run.

The easier way, is

Create a new layer

Switch back to the old layer

go to Edit -> Search

type in:
railway

go to Edit -> Merge Selection

select the new layer

switch to the new layer

select File -> Save as...

If I missed something or you have any questions, let me know,
