[OSM-newbies] Pie-wedge shape in OSMAND

Does anyone know what the pie-wedge shape in OSMAND for Android is supposed to signify?  It radiates out from your current location.  At first, I thought that it was intended to point north, but have since seen it point in a variety of other directions.
