[OSM-newbies] POIs as single points or areas?

Thank you all for the excellent guidance.

My unit is a Garmin but regardless I was concerned with maximising
overall functionality of OSM. Since most software can deal with it, I
will follow method #2 (area POIs) whenever possible.
