I have heard that moving rapidly with a GPS allows it to get a better fix
on the signals from the GPS satellites because it reduces the effect of
echoes and reflections of those signals caused by surrounding buildings
and other structures. I can't find any authoritative statements of that
claim, though, so take it with a grain of salt.

I have, however, noticed the same effects. My GPS seems most accurate
when placed just under my car's windshield and when I'm traveling 40-50
mph or more.
