Prof Rai,
Have you looked at the example on the OSM wiki:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Openlayers_POI_layer_example?
This gives a way of using OSM tiles if that is what you want?

I quite like the cloudmade Leaflet library as an alternative, which is what
we used for the BrewMap <http://brewmap.maps3.org.uk>.
