[OSM-newbies] How do I make "open josm to edit" links, which are available in some maps, work

You need to enable the "Remote control" feature in JOSM. Assuming you 
are using a fairly recent version of JOSM:
Go to Edit menu -> Preferences, then click on the remote control icon 
(probably the 9th icon from the top). Then you can tick the box for 
"Enable remote control", and probably also select the options for 
permitted actions to load data etc.

Then restart JOSM, and those Edit links should work. Note the links will 
only work when JOSM is actually running.
