[OSM-newbies] Tagging Stiles

Hi

I note from the OSM wiki that the tag for a stile is "barrier=stile". I have had a look for any discussion on additional tags but haven't found anything. If you know of any, please let me know.

I would like to add further tags to describe the type of stile. There is a reason for this as stone squeeze stiles are of historic preservation interest in the UK and I am told it would be useful to be able to identify these.

I note that for "barrier=wall" it is suggested you use the additional tag "wall=*", "dry_stone" being the obvious one in the UK, which are again of historic preservation interest.

Presumably it would therefore make sense to use "stile"

Scottish Natural Heritage (http://www.snh.org.uk/publications/on-line/accessguide/stiles_list.asp), use squeeze step and ladder to define the types of stile.

stile=squeeze
stile=step
stile=ladder

Although I note the following site http://www.ramblingsoverstiles.com/ also has

stile=vertical_slab

And to define the material as:

material=stone
material=wood
material=metal
material=concrete

It the above a reasonable approach or have I missed a previous discussion/conclusion on this?

Many Thanks

Dudley
