No mattter how much you argue for your cause -- and I haven't made up
my mind whether I agree with you are not -- it doesn't change the fact
that changing the license to CC0 is simply not possible without
starting a new project. The current data is licensed with the share-
alike clause, and the only way you can get around that is if you steal
the data. I don't suppose anyone wants to do that.
In any case, it would be a monumental task to start a new project; you
basically have an empty slate, and it would be a long, long journey
uphill. I can't say if it would be possible to re-use the GPS traces,
since I don't know what license they are published under. Perhaps if
GPS tracks were CC0'ed it would be possible in N years to start a new
project based on those tracks. That's a step to consider, at least.
The working group has no doubt evaluated all theses scenarios and come
up with the OdbL as the best possible compromise. I am a fan of going
with that. I am grateful they spent their time on this tedious work,
so the rest of us can do what we like the most: get out of the house,
collect tracks and create a great map.
Cheers,
Morten
