[Osmf-talk] OSM fair use examples

Hi,

Im just looking at the Google TOS and see that there is a nice photo
image of examples of exactly what is 'fair use' and a common example
of how to properly attribute, if you are going to use a googleMap or
Google earth screen view. Which is to simply include all of the
copyright notices on it.

http://www.google.com/permissions/geoguidelines.html
and in the 2nd set of images further below it lists what is acceptable
and not acceptable. the example is with showing the google earth view
and not showing the roads. as it is not distinguishable from other
satellite imagery sources.

Anyway, over on the page
http://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright
It would be great to see a clear example of where to list the 'ccBYsa'
on a screenview and list a printed map example. Showing the
potential user just how it needs to be attributed.

Ie. show a sample of http://hikebikemap.de/ main page view and
circle the bottom right corner where it lists what it is supposed to
look like.
and ALSO, use the walking-papers.org example,
http://walking-papers.org/ where it is VERY clear that at the bottom
left left corner the 'ccBYsa' png image should also be listed (if
possable) and show the example.

and the 3rd example you can use Marble Desktop (which consequentially)
does NOT have proper attribution. BUT it is clear that OSM is used,
because it is listed as the theme when selected. So this can be used
as an example that would also be OK.

and as the 4th example, you can use a Garmin Map view (when you start
up the device you see the copyright notice that says 'Map data
provided by OpenStreetMap and Contributors ccBYsa". So then this
can be a clear digital example.

And another example for Googe Earth Map Overlays showing OSM as
transparent is fine, as long as the OSM ccBYsa is listed somewhere
(the author of this product does not know what 'proper attribution
is'. (i have chatted with him)
http://www.mgmaps.com/kml/

Hopefully you will be able to add some of these examples, as a picture
is worth 1,000 words. And as you can see. Many OSM users who create
products using OSM have no idea about what is 'fair use' and 'proper
attribution'. They shouldn't have to dig just to find attribution
examples.
 :)

cheers,
Sam
