Hi,

we often have discussions about "strategy", what OSMF should aim
for, and so on.

OSGeo, which caters for Open Source geospatial software, runs the FOSS4G
conference, and is in some ways similar to OSMF, has published an
interesting document about their board priorities. I like the document;
it is concise and clear, and certainly worth reading:

http://lists.osgeo.org/pipermail/discuss/2013-March/011410.html

The document expands on their plan to remain a "low capital, volunteer
focused organisation"; in our discussions we haven't used the terms "low
capital" or "high capital" but I think their explanation makes perfect
sense. I find it refreshing for them to affirm that they think the "low
capital" path is better for them.

What they write about "supporting initiatives which support themselves",
or about conferences and related events, describes the role in which I
see OSMF as well.

Most of all, I envy them for being able to produce a document of such
high standard in a four hour board meeting
(http://wiki.osgeo.org/wiki/Board_Meeting_2013-02-26) ;)

Bye
Frederik
