You may remember this email I sent about a year ago. Due to various failures on my part, it's taken a whole year to get something together, but I did hear back from a few people, and we are  having a CWG kick-off meeting, which will happen tomorrow at midday UTC on skype.

If you'd be interested in joining us, have a read of the email below again and get in touch with me. In fact even if can't attend the meeting, let me know if you'd like to join/help CWG.

Subject: Communicators wanted for CWG

We're looking for some fresh faces to join the Communications Working Group, and also to act as communication helpers for the group. Ideally we'd find great communicators who are very involved in OpenStreetMap, but don't let that put you off. Being a "great communicator" means you know how to string some sentences together.  Being very involved in OpenStreetMap...  well you're reading this... You *are* involved. Maybe you could join the Communications Working Group.

People in the Communications Working Group will be involved in decision making and shaping the communication and promotion strategy of OpenStreetMap. "Working Group" sounds like it's going to involve a lot of work. In terms of time commitment it's not too heavy. We attend hour-long meetings, and spend a few hours on action items between meetings.

CWG have responsibility over various communication channels, and this means an ongoing need to do things like writing blog posts, and engaging over twitter, facebook, etc.  Sometimes this is almost a journalism role, seeking out the latest story. Sometimes it involves tip-toeing around sensitive topics (read more about this here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/19b4QViH5fIau0VBtZhi7AYO1mdftLh34iLIEb5jypu4/pub )  We also have use for translators, and (if our scope widens a little) designers, and documenters. There's some notes about CWG's potential scope at the bottom of this document: https://hackpad.com/CWG-plan-early-2013-dXIuZVnmJxP

Some of these roles could form part of an extended team of "CWG helpers". This structuring is still to be decided, although we already have a team of translator helpers.

I'd like to hear from anyone who is interested in being part of the CWG, or helping CWG in some way. My plan is to organise a "re-boot" meeting in a few weeks time. So please get in touch with some details about yourself, plus any questions you have, and I will invite you to join in with this meeting.
