On the advisory board of the Wikimedia Foundation
http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Advisory_Board there are, at least,
one representative from India and two from Africa, from the Republic of
South Africa and Namibia.
I can reach this page of the Advisory Board and the page of Board of
Trustees from any page of Wikipedia just in two clicks. On these pages
there are photos and textual information about the officers and trustees.
There is good satellite imagery for the city of Windhoek, the capital
of Namibia, in JOSM, and there are many modern buildings to map. Africa
is going online via the network of very fast submarine cables
https://manypossibilities.net/african-undersea-cables/
It is not a big change to make the OSMF Officers & Board page more
visible and similar to the Wikimedia Foundation's analogue.
I agree that a political correctness for the sake of political
correctness is useless, but if in future there is a good mapper and and
an organizer from, say, Namibia or Tanzania, why not? Especially if it
attracts an attention, improves trust and helps to map these immense
countries.
